Standby Self Storage is a family-run business built in the Southeast of England. The company was set up in 2010, opening our first site in Croydon in 2011 – and it’s stayed a family business ever since.

We started small, looking closely at what other storage facilities were getting wrong before we opened our doors: no drive-up access, limited hours, units that weren’t properly clean or secure. We built Standby to fix exactly that, and it’s the same thinking that’s taken us from one site to nine of the best-run storage facilities in the Southeast – Aylesbury, Crawley, Croydon, Epsom, Horsham, Molesey, Reading, Reigate and Worthing.

We’re never satisfied with standing still. As well as opening new locations, we’re constantly investing in the sites we already have. Most operators rely on mobile stairs to reach the upper row of stacked units – at our Reigate container yard, we went a step further and installed a commercial-grade lift instead, giving customers proper, easy access to second-tier storage. It’s exactly this kind of thinking that earned us the CSTA 2026 Container Innovator award.

What hasn’t changed is how we run things. No call centers, no complicated small print – just straightforward storage and genuinely excellent customer service from people who actually know the local area, because we live and work in it too.
